Why do we have to record the causality of our mind and body?
The idea of the website, or the title of the website to be more exact, must have been quite impolite. Who are you to sat me down and lecture about how to burp? The confusion and absurdity of the audience was something I expected from the very primary state of the constructing howtoburpwithtechnology.com. So why is the title so absurd? The intentions and purposes of this website lays in sharing knowledge towards Medical Self Monitoring Devices and the concept of Self Tracking to the ones who are suffering of mental disturbances. Moreover, through these purposes to bring acknowledgement that diminished physical symptoms, such as burping, has a relation to mental disturbance in many forms and has to be tracked, monitored and recorded for future deeds.
A human mind is, in many ways humble yet complicated, and shares incredibly large strands with human body. It is a common experience that many people share, that certain psychological causes had led to certain physical effect. For instance, feeling nauseous while facing large audience or shivering frantically when entering certain spaces. It is a misconception that we dismiss it as a juvenile behavior, not worthy of serious consideration. It is seldom wrong to self track physical or/and psychological symptoms. There is no embarrassment or shame in acknowledging these mechanisms, no matter how minor or ridiculous the finding seems. In fact, studying these normal functions can provide considerable insight into our own mental and physical health, as evidenced by the surging of medical self monitoring devices (MSMD) designed to record such physical or mental disturbances.
Medical Self Monitoring Device (MSMD)
Medical Self Monitoring Device(MSMD) is a device or application that uses digital technology to perform self tracking / self monitoring.
In the early ages, most MSMDs were close to a Medical Device or Medical Supporting Tool, as it shared relations with field of medicine, and in many cases was dedicated towards patients or certain illnesses. Most of the devices were in purpose to support patients with their medical schedule or needs, such as sending regular alarms for pills or recording daily symptoms of illness. So it shared little relations with mind-body causality or the its relation to mental disturbances.
After the establishment of the term ‘Self Tracking’ and ‘Quantified Self’ in 2007 by two Wired magazine editors, which is term that recognizes the interests in self-understanding and elaboration towards the wellbeing of self, as to climb on the trend, multiple applications began soaring in the market. Now there are more than thousands of applications in both Appstore and Google Play that is categorized ‘Health and Fitness’ containing the supports towards self monitoring.
Why is it wrong to ‘scale’ suffering?
“The strongest people are not those who show strength in front of the world but those who fight and win battles that others do not know anything about.”
Jonathan Harnisch The Brutal Truth
The project and the website hold no purpose for belittlement. I have no intention to make fun of anyone or anything, as before this project was built in purpose to share knowledge and acknowledgement, it was an opportunity for myself too. Sometimes, those suffering from mental disturbances find it difficult to search for suitable aid or assistance and their suffering is diminished and belittled as a sign of weakness. A bird will drown in water when a fish will swim, yet a fish will suffocate in air when a bird will fly. A healthy understanding of self and our condition requires a view of the body that doesn’t hold some topics to be beneath us in terms of seriousness. No one can put a scale on suffering.
